I started taking people fishing in 2006 on Pokegama Lake in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, after friends and referrals began reaching out for help catching walleyes and learning the techniques behind it. What began as a few casual trips quickly turned into something more. In the years that followed, my good friend Randy Topper and I built that passion into a business, founding Hang Loose Guide Service with the goal of educating anglers of all experience levels.

My name is Brock Anderson, and I grew up just south of Pokegama Lake. I’ve spent countless hours on this water, learning the habits and patterns of the species that call it home. Many of our early clients were seasonal residents looking for guidance on where to fish, how to approach the lake, and how to make the most of their time on the water.

Grand Rapids is just the starting point. Northern Minnesota offers an incredible range of fisheries, and Hang Loose Guide Service operates across the region. From Mille Lacs Lake to Upper Red Lake, and throughout the surrounding lakes near Deer River and Bovey, we guide on a wide variety of waters. No lake is too big or too small. Our focus is on teaching current techniques, using modern technology, and making every trip both productive and enjoyable.

Some of the best days on the water are the ones filled with smiles, especially when kids are involved. Those moments, the photos, and the memories are what make it all worthwhile.

Outside of guiding, I compete in fishing tournaments across Minnesota. Tournament fishing continues to sharpen my skills, challenge my decision-making, and push me to stay on top of evolving patterns. When I’m not on the water, I focus on my primary career, helping clients plan their forever homes through lot layout guidance, as well as septic design and inspection

In my free time, you’ll find me hunting, or spending time with my wife and daughter.

Let’s get out on the water, enjoy the day, and make some memories.

With over 17 years of guiding experience, I’ve spent countless hours on these waters learning the patterns, refining techniques, and staying dialed in on what it takes to consistently find fish. My passion for fishing started at a young age, learning from my dad right here in the area. I grew up fishing all species, which built the foundation for the well-rounded approach I bring to every trip today.

As an active tournament angler, I’m always evolving, bringing that same level of focus and strategy to every trip I run.I use the latest technology, including forward-facing sonar, to eliminate guesswork and give my clients the best opportunity possible. That said, I understand that not everyone wants to fish that way, so whether you prefer high-tech or a more traditional approach, I’ll tailor the experience to you.

I take a lot of pride in being a strong teacher for those who want to learn, whether you’re brand new to fishing, looking to sharpen your skills, or getting kids out on the water. Creating a positive, encouraging experience is something that matters to me just as much as putting fish in the boat.

My goal is simple: give you a great day on the water. Whether that means a laid-back trip where you can relax and enjoy the scenery, or a more hands-on experience where you want to learn techniques, read electronics, and improve your skills, I meet you where you’re at.At the end of the day, it’s about more than just catching fish. It’s about building confidence, enjoying the experience, and creating memories that last.
